“Bananas!* tells the story of a campaigning lawyer who represents 12 workers at a Nicaraguan banana plantation in a lawsuit against their employers, Dole Food. They alleged that Dole had caused their infertility through the use of a banned pesticide. The documentary was selected for competition in LA. However, once Dole’s lawyers started writing “cease and desist” letters to the festival, its sponsors, the filmmakers and even to the Swedish ambassador in Washington, the LA slot came under threat. In the end, the Festival withdrew the film from competition.”
